Misu vs Photoroom
A Photoroom alternative for fashion brands
Different jobs. Both done well.
Photoroom is a fast editor for cleaning up product photos at volume. Misu is a studio for making the campaign around the product: a licensed model, the same face in every shot, stills and video from one brief.

01
What each tool is built for
Photoroom started as a background remover and grew into a full product-photo editor on web, iOS, Android and Shopify. Its core is catalogue work: cut the product out, drop it on a clean or generated background, add a shadow, export a thousand of them. It also has fashion features, including AI fashion models, ghost mannequin and flat-lay tools, and video on its higher plans.
Misu starts from the other end. A brand adds its products, casts a model from the Model Board or trains its own character, and briefs a shoot. Character Lock keeps the face identical across every image and clip; Product Lock trains on 5 to 20 photos of a product so stitching, colour and shape hold in every scene. The output is a campaign set, not a single cleaned-up photo.

When Photoroom is the better pick
Worth saying plainly, because it saves you a trial.
Pure catalogue cleanup
If the job is cutting out hundreds of packshots and putting them on white, Photoroom is faster and cheaper per image. That is the job it was built for.
An API for background removal
At $0.02 an image on its basic API plan, it is hard to beat for automated cutouts inside your own pipeline.
Editing on a phone
Its mobile apps let a small team shoot and edit from the stockroom. Misu runs in the browser.
04
When Misu is the better pick
A campaign, not a cutout
A campaign is briefed once and produced as a set: same model, same products, same direction, in a PDP set, a lookbook, a social drop or a hero.
Licensed faces
The Main Board holds licensed AI twins of real models, cleared for commercial use. You don't need to own a photo of a person to put a person in your shoot.
Stills and video from the same cast
The model and product that appear in your stills carry into video, so a campaign film matches the imagery around it.
A studio behind it
When a launch needs a creative director, Misu runs managed productions from €1,200 a shoot on the same platform.
05
Using both
Plenty of brands will keep a catalogue editor for daily cleanup and use Misu for the imagery that has to carry the brand: launches, lookbooks, campaign heroes and video. The two don't overlap much. Clean packshots from any tool work well as product references in Misu, and a finished Misu image can go straight to your Shopify listing.

Questions people ask
Is Misu cheaper than Photoroom?
No, not per image. Photoroom starts at $12.99 a month and Misu at €29. Misu costs more because it does more per image: a licensed model, a consistent face across a set and campaign direction, plus video on every plan.
Can Photoroom keep the same model across a campaign?
Yes, if you upload your own model photos and own the rights to them. Misu gives you licensed models to cast from, and Character Lock holds the face across every still and clip without you supplying the person.
Does Misu remove backgrounds?
Yes. Background Remover and Batch Background Swap are ready-made techniques in the Studio. If cutouts are all you need, though, a dedicated editor is the simpler tool.
Does Misu work with Shopify?
Yes. Connect your store to import products, and send a finished image to a product's Shopify listing.
Who owns what I make in Misu?
You do. Every plan includes full commercial rights to every generated asset, worldwide.
